Superuse Hammer

Designer: Joe Franc

Materials: Steel and Ash

Superuse describes the process of utilising surplus materials within proximity to the area of manufacture. By employing production waste, the process differs from normative methods of design. The steel hammer heads were plasma cutting off-cuts sourced from S, M Thompson Limited, a specialist in steel profiling based in Middlesborough, England. The steel has been patinated, waxed and combined with a stained ash handle, showcasing a hammer form determined by this ‘waste’ material.
