Miss Jean Gibson

Designer: Colin Wilson

Materials: powder coated steel, ebonized oak and brass

The stool is 780mm high and has a 300mm diameter ebonized swivel seat. The materials, construction and finishes used pay homage to machinist’s stools of the 1940/50s industrial period.

The inspiration for the project is my 90+ year old neighbor, Miss Jean Gibson. Jean worked in a British Royal Ordnance factory during WW2, the factory girls became known as the “Aycliffe Angels”. At the end of the war she then took on a career as a sewing machinist which continues to this day. Jean has lived and labored with this type of industrial furniture all her working life.
